Cracovia vs Lech Poznan
KRAKOW, Poland (Interstat) — In a chaotic and contentious Ekstraklasa clash marked by a first-half red card, Cracovia and Lech Poznan played to a 2-2 draw Sunday at Stadion Cracovii im. Józefa Piłsudskiego.
The match, which failed to separate the Polish top-flight rivals, turned dramatically in the 39th minute when Lech Poznan substitute Pablo Rodríguez was shown a straight red card, forcing the visitors to play a man down for over 50 minutes. Rodríguez had entered the match as a substitute and was booked just moments before his dismissal.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, it was Lech Poznan who struck first. In the 44th minute, midfielder Mikkel Maigaard broke the deadlock, giving the short-handed visitors a surprising lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw Cracovia push for an equalizer, and they found it in the 79th minute through midfielder Mateusz Praszelik, setting up a frantic finale.
The drama intensified just two minutes later. In the 81st minute, Lech Poznan substitute Ali Gholizadeh restored his team’s lead, scoring to make it 2-1 and seemingly snatch an unlikely victory.
However, Cracovia responded immediately. Just seconds after the restart following the goal, Praszelik struck again for the home side, netting his second of the match to level the score at 2-2, where it would remain.
The match was a physical affair, littered with nine yellow cards in addition to the red. Maigaard, who had a goal and an assist for Lech Poznan, was among those booked. Cracovia’s Dominik Piła, Michał Gurgul and Ajdin Hasić, along with Lech Poznan’s Timothy Ouma, also received cautions. Hasić and Ouma each recorded an assist.
The result leaves both teams in the middle of the Ekstraklasa table. Cracovia’s season record in the competition now stands at 7 wins, 5 losses and 7 draws. Lech Poznan moved to 6 wins, 3 losses and 8 draws in league play.
The draw extends Lech Poznan’s recent unbeaten run in the Ekstraklasa to four matches, though they have drawn three of those. For Cracovia, the point follows a scoreless draw with Wisla Plock on Thursday.
The match defied the pre-game projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw but whose ELO rating system gave Cracovia a 52.6 percent probability of securing a victory, an advantage they could not capitalize on despite playing with an extra man for most of the match.
This fixture served as a rematch from the opening day of the season, when Cracovia secured a 4-1 victory over Lech Poznan on July 18.
Lech Poznan now turns its attention to European competition, with a UEFA Europa Conference League home match against Germany’s FSV Mainz 05 scheduled for Thursday. Cracovia’s next match is not until Feb. 2, 2026, when they travel to face Nieciecza in league play.
