RENNES, France (Interstat) — Lorient opened its Ligue 1 season with a 2-0 road victory over Stade Rennais on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Roazhon Park. Substitute Jean-Victor Makengo stunned the home crowd with a goal in the third minute. Lorient sealed the win in the 77th minute when another substitute, Pablo Pagis, found the net. Valentin Rongier and Esteban Lepaul provided assists for Lorient. The result defied a pregame projection that favored a draw. Both teams received first-half yellow cards. The loss marked a disappointing start for Rennes in domestic competition.
