DEBRECEN, Hungary (Interstat) — Puskas Akademia FC opened the NB I season with a 1-0 road upset over Debrecen on Saturday at Nagyerdei Stadion. Substitute Zsolt Nagy scored the game’s lone goal in the 36th minute, converting after a buildup that included an assist from fellow substitute Péter Szappanos.

The result defied heavy pre-match projections favoring the home side. Debrecen, which controlled much of the match, was unable to solve Puskas Akademia’s defense. The physical contest featured eight yellow cards, with four issued to each team in a tense second half.

The victory gives Puskas Akademia a winning start to both its league campaign and overall season, while Debrecen begins the year with a defeat in all competitions.
