Preview: Sydney Visits Auckland FC in A-League Clash

SYDNEY (Interstat) — A cross-Tasman rivalry renews Friday when Sydney travels to face Auckland FC in an A-League match at Mount Smart Stadium.

The fixture, set for Feb. 6, 2026, pits two sides coming off contrasting results from the weekend. Sydney (8-6-4) arrives with momentum after a decisive 4-1 home victory over Western Sydney Wanderers last Saturday. That win helped erase the memory of a 4-0 road loss to Melbourne Victory just five days prior, highlighting a season of volatility for the visitors.

Auckland FC (5-7-6), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a 2-1 away defeat to Perth Glory last Saturday. The New Zealand-based club has found consistent results elusive, with a 2-2 home draw against the Central Coast Mariners and a 2-1 loss to Melbourne City preceding the Perth match.

Recent form favors Sydney, which has won three of its last five league matches. Auckland FC has secured just one victory in that same span, a 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Jan. 9.

The statistical service Interstat projects a tightly contested draw, simulating a final score of 1-1.

This match is the first of three meetings between the clubs this season. They are scheduled to meet again in Sydney on Tuesday, Feb. 17, and will conclude their regular-season series in Sydney on Sunday, April 26.

For Sydney, the match kicks off a busy February that includes four A-League fixtures. Following this trip, they will host Adelaide United on Feb. 14 before the quick turnaround rematch with Auckland.

Auckland FC faces a similarly congested schedule, with this match beginning a stretch of three games in 11 days, including a trip to face Kampong Speu Province on Feb. 20.

Key to the matchup will be whether Sydney’s attack, which erupted for four goals last time out, can penetrate an Auckland defense that has conceded multiple goals in three of its last four outings. Conversely, Auckland will seek to exploit a Sydney side that has been shut out in four of its ten road matches this season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. local time (0645 GMT).
