Sydney vs Western Sydney W
SYDNEY (Interstat) — The latest chapter of Australian football’s most intense rivalry will be written Saturday when Sydney FC hosts the Western Sydney Wanderers in an A-League derby at Allianz Stadium.
The match arrives with both teams seeking momentum after contrasting recent results. Sydney is looking to rebound from a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Melbourne Victory last Monday. Prior to that setback, Sydney had been in strong form, winning three of its previous four league matches, including a 3-0 victory over Macarthur and a 3-2 win against the Central Coast Mariners.
The Wanderers, meanwhile, enter on a winning note after a 1-0 home victory over Perth Glory last Sunday. That result snapped a two-game losing streak in the league. Their form has been inconsistent, however, with just two wins in their last six A-League outings.
The most recent head-to-head meeting favors the visitors. On Nov. 29, the Wanderers secured a 1-0 home win in the season’s first derby. Sydney will be eager to avenge that result in front of its home supporters.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Sydney is projected to claim a 2-1 victory in the rematch.
Following Saturday’s clash, Sydney will prepare for a trip to face Auckland FC on Feb. 6. The Wanderers’ next assignment is a home fixture against Melbourne City on Feb. 7.
The derby is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. local time kickoff (0845 GMT) on Jan. 31.
