Newcastle Jets Rout Brisbane Roar in A-League Season Opener

NEWCASTLE, Australia (Interstat) — The Newcastle Jets opened their A-League season with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Brisbane Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.

The match defied a pregame projection of a draw, with the Jets scoring three second-half goals in a decisive nine-minute span. Clayton Taylor opened the scoring in the 52nd minute before substitute Dimitrios Valkanis doubled the lead ten minutes later. Midfielder Lachlan Bayliss then scored twice, including a stoppage-time goal, to seal the win.

Brisbane’s Chris Long received a yellow card in the 40th minute and a second yellow, resulting in a red card, in the 89th. The Roar begin their campaign with a loss.
