PERTH, Australia (Interstat) — Perth Glory opened its A-League season with a commanding 3-0 victory over the Cen Coast Mariners at HBF Park on Saturday.

The home side controlled the match, defying a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw. Nicholas Pennington opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Adam Taggart doubled the lead just before halftime in first-half stoppage time, and Tom Lawrence sealed the result with a 54th-minute goal.

All three scorers were assisted by substitutes, with Sebit Ngor, Storm Roux and Will Kennedy each recording an assist. Defender Luke Amos also had an assist. The Mariners, held scoreless, saw their season start with a loss as Perth began its campaign with a win.
