PARRAMATTA, NSW (Interstat) — Western Sydney Wanderers and Brisbane Roar opened their A-League campaigns with a 0-0 draw at CommBank Stadium on Saturday.

The match failed to produce a goal despite both sides registering assists, with substitutes Jay O’Shea, Chris Long and Quinn MacNicol among six players credited with one assist each in a disjointed contest. Discipline waned as the game progressed, resulting in six yellow cards. Aidan Simmons received the first booking in the 42nd minute.

The result left both teams with identical records of 0 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw to start the season in all competitions. The match defied the pregame projection from Interstat, which gave the Wanderers a 56.7% chance to win and forecast a 1-1 scoreline.
