Denmark U19 vs Kosovo U19
SÃO JOÃO DA VENDA, Portugal (Interstat) — In a commanding display that far exceeded pregame projections, Denmark’s under-19 women’s national team opened its UEFA U19 Championship qualification campaign with a decisive 4-0 victory over Kosovo on Saturday at Estádio Algarve.
The match, played under sunny skies on the Algarve coast, was effectively tipped in Denmark’s favor from the sixth minute when Kosovo’s Aurora Cakolli was shown a straight red card, forcing the visitors to play a woman down for the vast majority of the contest.
Despite the significant advantage, Denmark’s breakthrough did not come until the 35th minute. Forward Flora Højer, who had been shown a yellow card just seven minutes prior, settled the Danish side with the game’s opening goal. She doubled the lead just before halftime, finding the net again in the 43rd minute to send Denmark into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The scoreline defied the expectations of Interstat’s game simulator, which had projected a much closer 2-1 finish for Denmark. The team’s dominant performance also validated its high probability to win, which the same statistical service’s ELO system had placed at 78.70 percent.
Denmark’s control continued in the second half, though Kosovo’s resolve was tested further when substitute Aurora Mulliqi received a yellow card in the 58th minute. Denmark put the result beyond any doubt in the 75th minute. Substitute Mirjeta Januzi, who had entered the match for Kosovo, scored a goal to extend the lead to 3-0. The scoring was capped in the final minute of regulation time as Louise Strauss netted Denmark’s fourth goal to seal the 4-0 victory.
The match was a showcase for Danish forward Flora Højer, who was directly involved in three of the four goals, contributing two goals and one assist in a standout performance. Defender Carli Moesgaard, who was booked with a yellow card in the 38th minute, also recorded an assist. For Kosovo, the lone bright spot in an otherwise difficult match was the assist from substitute Aurora Mulliqi on her team’s sole goal.
The result immediately impacts the early standings in the European qualification group. Denmark U19 begins its season with a record of 1 win and 0 losses in the competition, while Kosovo U19 starts with 0 wins and 1 loss. The records also stand as each team’s overall record across all competitions for the young season.
The comprehensive victory provides a significant boost to Denmark’s goal difference, a factor that could prove crucial as the qualification tournament progresses. Kosovo, meanwhile, will look to regroup after a match hampered by an early dismissal, facing an uphill battle in its next qualification fixture.
