MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Interstat) — Penarol defeated crosstown rival Defensor Sporting 2-1 on Sunday in a Uruguayan Primera División match at Estadio Campeón del Siglo. The home side secured the victory with two first-half goals from Lucas Hernández, who scored in stoppage time and again in the 55th minute. Defensor Sporting managed a single goal in response. The result defied a Interstat projection of a 1-1 draw, though its ELO system heavily favored Penarol. With the win, Penarol begins its league campaign with a perfect record while Defensor Sporting starts with a loss.
