NAIROBI, Kenya (Interstat) — Sofapaka will host Shabana on Saturday, May 16, in a pivotal FKF Premier League matchup at a venue to be determined, with both sides desperate to gain momentum after recent struggles.

Shabana enters the contest with a slight edge in form and recent history. The visitors defeated Sofapaka 1-0 on Jan. 17 in their most recent head-to-head meeting. Shabana also holds a stronger overall record this season, though they have hit a rough patch. Their last match ended in a 0-0 draw against Ulinzi Stars FC on May 9, following a similar scoreless draw with Police on April 25. Before that, Shabana posted a 1-0 win over Homeboyz on April 18, but were then thumped 3-0 by Nairobi United FC on April 5. The team’s only other loss in that span was a 2-1 defeat to Gor Mahia FC on March 21.

Sofapaka, meanwhile, has struggled for consistency. The home side most recently fell 3-0 to Posta Rangers FC on May 11, and managed only a 2-2 draw with Mathare United on May 2. Sofapaka has lost five of their last 10 matches, including a 1-0 defeat to AP’s Bomet FC on April 26 and a 2-0 loss to Ulinzi Stars on March 29. Their only win in recent memory came on March 2, a 1-0 victory over Homeboyz, but they have been held scoreless in four of their last five outings.

Statistical projections suggest a tight affair. The Interstat game simulator forecasts a 1-1 draw, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Shabana a 70.1% probability of winning. That aligns with Shabana’s slightly better form and a 3-2-1 record in their last six matches across all competitions.

Both teams will look to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign. Shabana’s next match is against Kenya Commercial Bank FC on May 30, while Sofapaka travels to face Kariobangi Sharks on the same date.
