Pogon Szczecin vs Zaglebie Lubin

SZCZECIN, Poland (Interstat) — In a stunning and chaotic display of offensive firepower, Pogon Szczecin delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over Zaglebie Lubin in an Ekstraklasa match on Monday, defying pregame projections in spectacular fashion.

The contest, played before a raucous home crowd at Stadion Miejski im. Floriana Krygiera, was effectively decided in a bizarre and explosive first half that featured five goals and set a frantic pace from the opening whistle.

Defender Dimitrios Keramitsis authored a piece of league history just three minutes into the match, scoring an immediate opening goal. In a turn of events that left the visiting side reeling, Keramitsis doubled his tally moments later, again in the third minute, completing a rapid brace from an unlikely source to put the home side in a dominant early position.

The scoring deluge continued as the half progressed. Rajmund Molnár of Zaglebie Lubin momentarily gave the visitors a lifeline, finding the net in the 38th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. The hope was short-lived, however, as Pogon Szczecin’s Adrian Przyborek answered with a goal of his own just two minutes later in the 40th minute, restoring the two-goal advantage.

Before the halftime whistle could blow, the home side struck again. Substitute Mateusz Dziewiatowski entered the match and made an instant impact, scoring in the 49th minute to send Pogon Szczecin into the break with a commanding 4-1 lead.

The second half saw the frantic pace subside, but Pogon was not finished. Molnár secured a brace of his own for Zaglebie Lubin in the 75th minute, but it was nothing more than a consolation effort. Pogon’s Przyborek had the final say, netting his second goal of the evening in the 85th minute to seal the emphatic 5-1 result.

The match was a physical affair, with three yellow cards issued in the first half. Danijel Lončar of Zaglebie Lubin was booked in the 23rd minute, followed by Pogon’s Fredrik Ulvestad in the 25th. Zaglebie Lubin goalkeeper Jasmin Burić received a yellow card in the 72nd minute.

The final score was a dramatic departure from all pregame expectations. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a low-scoring 1-1 draw, while its ELO rating system had given Zaglebie Lubin a 54.2 percent probability of securing a victory.

The result provides a significant boost for Pogon Szczecin, improving their Ekstraklasa record to six wins, eight losses and three draws. The lopsided loss halts a positive run for Zaglebie Lubin, which was coming off a 2-0 victory over Gornik Zabrze on Nov. 7. Their league record now stands at five wins, four losses and six draws.

For Pogon, the performance marks a return to winning ways after a 2-1 home loss to Jag Bialystok on Nov. 9. The five-goal outburst is their largest in the league since a 4-1 victory over Motor Lublin on July 26.

Key to the victory were the standout performances of Przyborek, Dziewiatowski and Keramitsis, each scoring two goals in the rout. Keramitsis, a defender, set the tone with his unprecedented early double, while Przyborek’s brace ensured the home side maintained its momentum throughout the match. Dziewiatowski’s contribution off the bench underscored the depth and effectiveness of Pogon’s attack on the night.

Zaglebie Lubin will look to regroup when they host Jag Bialystok on Sunday, Nov. 30. Pogon Szczecin, buoyed by this resounding victory, will travel to face GKS Katowice on Saturday, Nov. 29, in their next Ekstraklasa fixture.
