Chernihiv vs FK Vorskla Poltava

CHERNIHIV, Ukraine (Interstat) — Viacheslav Koidan scored in the 83rd minute Sunday to lift FK Vorskla Poltava to a 2-1 victory over Chernihiv in a Persha Liga match at Chernihiv Arena.

Ivan Potskhveria opened the scoring for Vorskla in the ninth minute, finishing a buildup that caught the Chernihiv defense off balance. Chernihiv answered in the 41st minute when Anton Baidal leveled the score just before halftime, capitalizing on a loose ball inside the penalty area.

The match remained deadlocked until Koidan’s late strike, which came after a corner kick was not cleared. Koidan’s shot from near the top of the box beat the Chernihiv goalkeeper to the near post, securing three points for the visitors.

The victory snapped a four-match losing streak for Vorskla across all competitions. The Poltava side had fallen to Prykarpattya Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, FK Probij Horodenka and FK Ahrobiznes Volochysk in its previous four outings, all by shutout margins. Vorskla’s last win came March 29 against FK Inhulets.

Chernihiv, meanwhile, had lost its previous match to Metalist 1925 but had posted a draw and a win in its two prior contests. The home side was unable to build on an earlier-season victory against Vorskla, a 1-0 result Oct. 8, 2025, in Poltava.

Vorskla’s season record in Persha Liga play now stands at 7 wins, 9 losses and 5 draws. Overall across all competitions, the team is 7-10-5. Chernihiv’s league mark dropped to 5-11-6, and its overall record is 7-13-8.

The match featured physical play in midfield with few clear chances before Potskhveria’s opener. Chernihiv responded well after conceding early and created several opportunities before Baidal’s equalizer. The home side pressed forward in the second half but could not find a second goal.

Vorskla goalkeeper made a key save in the 67th minute on a Chernihiv header, keeping the score level before Koidan’s winner.

Chernihiv will next travel to face FK UKSA on May 2, followed by a home match against Chornomorets on May 9. The team also has a midweek Ukrainian Cup fixture against FK Dynamo Kyiv on May 20.

Vorskla’s upcoming schedule includes a home match against FK Livyi Bereh on May 2, a road trip to Bukovyna on May 9, and a home contest with Metalist Kharkiv on May 16.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Chernihiv 1, FK Vorskla Poltava 1. Interstat’s ELO system gave Chernihiv a 74.80 percent probability to win the match.
