DAUGAVPILS, Latvia (Interstat) — Substitute Djibril Guèye scored in the 90th minute to give Liepaja a 2-1 victory over BFC Daugavpils in a 1. Liga match at Stadions Esplanāde on Sunday. The game saw a flurry of second-half action after a scoreless first half. Liepaja’s Marin Laušić opened the scoring in the 50th minute, only for BFC Daugavpils’ Modou Saidy to equalize two minutes later. Guèye then secured the win with his late strike, assisted by Laušić. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat that had forecast a 1-1 draw. Liepaja begins its league season with a win, while BFC Daugavpils starts with a loss.
