Gwangju vs Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC
Preview: Gwangju Hosts Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in FA Cup Clash
GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — A stark contrast in recent form will be on display Saturday when Gwangju hosts Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC in the South Korean FA Cup.
The match, scheduled for Dec. 6, 2025, pits a Gwangju side riding a wave of momentum against a Jeonbuk squad mired in a prolonged slump.
Gwangju enters the cup tie fresh off a 1-0 away victory over Suwon on Nov. 30. That result capped a strong November that also included a 2-0 home win against Ulsan. While their form has been inconsistent this season, Gwangju has demonstrated a potent attack in several matches, including a pair of 4-2 victories over Suwon in September.
Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, a traditional powerhouse, arrives in a state of crisis. The visitors are reeling from a 2-1 defeat to lower-division side Daejeon Korail on Nov. 8, a result emblematic of their disastrous second half of the season.
That loss was Jeonbuk’s seventh in its last eight matches across all competitions. Since late September, the team has suffered defeats to multiple lower-league opponents, including Ulsan Citizen FC, Gyeongju HNP, Yeoju Citizen, Yangpyeong, Siheung Citizen and Busan Transport. Their lone win in that span was a 3-0 victory over Ulsan Citizen FC on Sept. 30.
The statistical projections for Saturday’s match present a contradiction. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 1-1 draw. However, the same outlet’s ELO rating system gives Gwangju a commanding 95.60 percent probability to win outright, highlighting the vast disparity in current trajectory between the two clubs.
For Jeonbuk, the FA Cup represents a chance to salvage a dismal season and find a path back to respectability. For Gwangju, it is an opportunity to capitalize on strong home support and advance deeper into a knockout competition, potentially at the expense of a historic rival experiencing unprecedented struggles.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. local time at Gwangju Football Stadium.
