Portland Timbers vs Real Salt Lake

PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Portland Timbers and Real Salt Lake will meet Wednesday in a late-season MLS match at Providence Park, with both sides looking to build momentum after recent disappointing results.

The Timbers (16-14-11) enter the match following a 4-0 home loss to San Diego FC last Saturday. Real Salt Lake (15-23-7) is coming off a 2-2 draw with St. Louis City.

Despite Portland holding a superior record in league play, the recent head-to-head history favors the visitors. The last four meetings between the clubs have been low-scoring affairs, with Real Salt Lake winning the two most recent 1-0 on July 16. The other two matches in May ended in 0-0 draws.

Portland has shown more consistency this season, sitting above the playoff line, while Real Salt Lake has struggled to a sub-.500 record. Both teams, however, have experienced defensive vulnerabilities. Portland was shut out in its last two MLS matches, while RLS has conceded four or more goals four times since mid-September.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the most likely outcome is a 1-1 draw, a result that would extend a trend of tight contests between the Western Conference foes.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.
