Asgabat vs FK Arkadag
Preview: FK Arkadag Looks to Extend Dominance Against Struggling Asgabat
ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan (Interstat) — A lopsided Ýokary Liga rivalry resumes Thursday when first-place FK Arkadag visits last-place Asgabat.
The match at Ashgabat Stadium pits the league’s most potent attack against its most porous defense under the lights in the Turkmen capital. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. local time.
FK Arkadag (12-0-1) enters riding a historic wave of dominance, particularly in this fixture. The club has outscored Asgabat 21-0 across their last five meetings, including consecutive 4-0 and 7-0 victories in June and August of this season. A Interstat game simulator projects another 4-0 victory for the visitors.
Form underscores the forecast. Arkadag is unbeaten in domestic play and fresh off a 2-0 win over traditional power Altyn Asyr on Dec. 7. Their offense has produced 35 goals in 13 league matches, averaging nearly three per game.
“We respect every opponent, but our mentality is to control the match from the first minute,“ Arkadag manager Yazguly Hojageldiyev said Tuesday. “The table does not lie. We must play to our standard.“
Conversely, Asgabat (3-1-9) is mired in a relegation battle, having conceded a league-worst 28 goals. They have lost four of their last five, including a 1-0 defeat to Nebitci on Nov. 30. Their lone victory in that span was a 2-1 result against Merw on Oct. 30.
The home side has shown brief resilience, earning draws against mid-table Ahal and Merw this season, but has been consistently overwhelmed by the league’s elite. They fell 5-0 to Altyn Asyr in September before the repeated thrashings by Arkadag.
“We know the challenge is monumental,“ Asgabat captain Dovran Orazov said. “Past results are painful. Our only focus is on being organized and fighting for 90 minutes to change the story.“
Arkadag’s depth has been key, with scoring distributed across multiple attackers. Their defense, allowing just 0.62 goals per game, has kept seven clean sheets.
Asgabat will aim to disrupt that rhythm through a compact defensive shape and hope for efficiency on rare counter-attacks. Any dropped points by Arkadag would be a major upset.
The visitors can extend their lead atop the table with a win before hosting Nebitci on Dec. 18. Asgabat travels to face Ahal the same day, seeking points to climb out of the cellar.
Prediction: FK Arkadag 4, Asgabat 0. The gulf in class and form suggests another one-sided affair in favor of the league leaders.
