ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — An early-season Greek Cup matchup on Wednesday pits top-flight Panathinaikos against a surging second-division side, APS Atrómitos Athinón.

Both clubs enter the contest with perfect 1-0-0 records in the domestic cup competition this season. Panathinaikos, the visiting powerhouse, advanced with a 1-0 victory over Athens Kallithéa FC on Sept. 17. Atrómitos earned its place with a 4-2 win against APO Ellas Syros on the same date.

The home side, however, is coming off a 1-1 draw with Niki Volos in league play on Sept. 24. Panathinaikos has not played since its cup win over a month ago.

The match represents a classic cup challenge, with the lower-league Atrómitos looking to capitalize on home field advantage against a Super League opponent. Panathinaikos will be heavily favored on paper, but will need to overcome a potential rust factor after the extended layoff.

According to the Interstat game simulator, Panathinaikos is projected to navigate the test with a 2-1 victory. The winner will advance to the next round of the knockout tournament.
