Karmiotissa vs Anorthosis

NICOSIA, Cyprus (Interstat) — A struggling Anorthosis side looks to find consistency when it visits Karmiotissa in the Cypriot Cup on Wednesday.

The match at the Pano Polemidia Municipal Stadium pits a Karmiotissa team riding high from a recent 3-0 victory over Ahironas/Onisilos in September against an Anorthosis club mired in a difficult domestic season.

Anorthosis enters the cup tie fresh from a 1-1 home draw with APOEL last Saturday. That result is indicative of its season, having recorded just two wins in its last eight First Division matches. Its form has been erratic, featuring a 3-2 win over EN Paralimníou on Nov. 23 but also heavy losses, including a 5-0 defeat to Omonoia and a 4-1 loss to Aris Lemesou earlier this fall.

Karmiotissa, which competes in a lower division, will view this as a prime opportunity for a cup upset. Its comprehensive win in September suggests a team in form, though it has faced lesser competition recently.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, which would force extra time and possibly penalties. For Anorthosis, the cup represents a chance at salvation from a poor league campaign. Following this match, its schedule does not ease, with a league visit to Apollon set for Dec. 7.

Wednesday’s winner advances in the knockout tournament, while the loser’s focus will turn fully to domestic concerns.
