MANAMA, Bahrain (Interstat) — Budaiya opened the Bahrain Premier League season with a 2-1 upset victory over Al Hidd on Friday at Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Stadium. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. Budaiya’s Adriano scored just six minutes into the match and later added a second goal in the 76th minute to secure the win. Bekaye Wade also scored for Budaiya in the first half. Al Hidd’s Abdulla Al Bahrani scored a consolation goal in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time. The loss marked a disappointing start for Al Hidd, which was given an 83 percent probability to win by statistical models.
