Metropolitanos vs Carabobo
CARACAS, Venezuela (Interstat) — Carabobo delivered a commanding performance on the road Wednesday, defeating Metropolitanos 4-0 in a Venezuelan Primera División match at Estadio Olímpico.
The visitors solidified their standing as a top contender in the league, while the home side’s struggles deepened in a match defined by a decisive second-half surge.
Carabobo’s victory was built on a dominant second-half display, breaking a scoreless deadlock with a pair of late goals. The deadlock was finally broken in the 66th minute when Angelo Lucena found the net for Carabobo. The insurance goal came in the 87th minute from substitute Jhosuan Berríos, sealing the comprehensive win.
The match was a physical affair, with four yellow cards issued by the officiating crew. The cautions began early, with Carabobo’s José Riasco booked in the 12th minute, followed by Metropolitanos’ Darwin Pérez in the 16th. Metropolitanos goalkeeper Luis Terán received a yellow in the 60th minute, and Carabobo’s Franner López was cautioned in the 70th.
The result extends Carabobo’s strong run of form. They now hold a record of 19 wins, six losses and 10 draws in Primera División play, positioning them among the league’s elite. Their overall record across all competitions improves to 23 wins, 11 losses and 15 draws. This victory marks their second win in a row, following a 2-1 result against Deportivo Tachira on Nov. 1. The team has lost only once in its last five league outings.
Conversely, the loss is a significant setback for Metropolitanos, who see their league record fall to 11 wins, 15 losses and eight draws. Their overall mark across all competitions now stands at 12 wins, 20 losses and 12 draws. The team has managed just a single victory in its last five matches, a 1-1 draw with Caracas on Nov. 1.
The lopsided outcome defied the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 1-1 draw. However, the result aligned more closely with the same service’s ELO rating system, which gave Carabobo a 70.60 percent probability of winning.
Historically, this fixture has been closely contested, but Carabobo has recently gained the upper hand. The win completes a regular-season sweep for Carabobo, having also defeated Metropolitanos 1-0 on Oct. 22. The two sides played to a scoreless draw in their two meetings on Aug. 2. Prior to this recent dominance, their encounter on June 7 ended in a 2-2 draw.
Looking ahead, both teams return to Primera División action on Saturday. Carabobo will look to continue its push near the top of the table as it hosts Caracas. Metropolitanos, seeking to halt its slide, faces a difficult road test against Deportivo Tachira.
