Penya Encarnada vs Ranger's

ANDORRA LA VELLA, Andorra (Interstat) — Penya Encarnada will look to snap a three-match losing streak against Ranger’s when the two sides meet Sunday in a 1a Divisió clash at Estadi Comunal.

Penya Encarnada (6-3-7 in its last 16 league games) enters on a rare high after a 1-0 win at Ordino on April 26. That result ended a three-match winless run (0-1-2) that included a 2-0 home loss to FC Santa Coloma and a scoreless draw with Carroi. The team has managed just one goal in its last four matches overall.

Ranger’s (10-1-4 in its last 15) comes off a 5-3 defeat at IC d’Escaldes on April 25 — its first loss in nine league games. Prior to that, Ranger’s had won four straight, including a 2-1 victory at Carroi on April 19 and a 3-1 home win over AC d’Escaldes on April 11. The visitors have scored at least three goals in six of their past 10 outings.

Sunday’s matchup marks the fourth meeting this season between the two clubs. Ranger’s has dominated the series, winning all three previous encounters: 4-0 at home on Jan. 24, 3-0 at Penya Encarnada on Jan. 11, and 3-1 at Penya Encarnada on Nov. 23. In those three games, Ranger’s outscored Penya Encarnada 10-1 and kept two clean sheets.

Despite the historical disparity, the Interstat game simulator projects a 3-2 home win for Penya Encarnada. The model suggests a tighter contest than recent results indicate, perhaps reflecting Penya Encarnada’s improvement at home — they have won two of their last three at Estadi Comunal.

Key for Penya Encarnada will be generating scoring chances against a Ranger’s defense that has allowed multiple goals in only two of its last 12 league matches. Meanwhile, Ranger’s will rely on its high-powered attack, which has averaged 2.9 goals per game across all competitions this season.

After Sunday, Penya Encarnada travels to AC d’Escaldes on May 17, while Ranger’s hosts FC Santa Coloma on May 16.

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. local time.
