ADELAIDE, Australia (Interstat) — Adelaide United opened its A-League season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Macarthur on Sunday at Coopers Stadium.

The home side overcame an early deficit after Macarthur’s Mitch Duke scored in the seventh minute. Adelaide midfielder Anselmo led the comeback with two second-half goals, in the 63rd and 89th minutes. Defender Panagiotis Kikianis added a 75th-minute strike.

The result defied a tight pregame projection. Adelaide’s win improved its record to 1-0-0, while Macarthur fell to 0-1-0. Three players received yellow cards in the match.
