BRISBANE, Australia (Interstat) — Brisbane Roar and Sydney FC opened their A-League seasons with a 0-0 draw Thursday at Suncorp Stadium. The match failed to produce a goal despite Interstat’s pregame projection of a 1-1 result and giving Sydney a 57.6% chance to win.

The stalemate left both clubs with 0-0-1 records to start the domestic campaign. Four substitutes provided key performances for Brisbane, with Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Alex Popovic, Paul Okon-Engstler and Youstin Salas each recording an assist in the match.

Discipline was an issue, as Popovic received a yellow card in the eighth minute. Three more cautions followed in a chaotic two-minute span late in the second half for Okon-Engstler, Courtney-Perkins and Salas.
