ADELAIDE, Australia (Interstat) — Adelaide United and Auckland FC played to a 1-1 draw Friday in an A-League match at Coopers Stadium.

Ethan Alagich opened the scoring for the home side in the 25th minute. Auckland FC’s Felipe Gallegos equalized just before halftime in the 48th minute. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored Adelaide United.

The match was a physical affair, featuring 10 yellow cards issued by the officiating crew. Key assists were provided by substitutes Guillermo May and Daniel Hall for Auckland FC, and Brody Burkitt for Adelaide United.

With the draw, both clubs opened their A-League seasons with identical records.
