Adelaide United Rallies for Road Win Over Western Sydney

ADELAIDE, Australia (Interstat) — Adelaide United overcame an early deficit to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers 4-2 in an A-League match Friday at CommBank Stadium.

Alex Gersbach put the home side ahead in the ninth minute, but Adelaide responded with three first-half goals. Substitute Luka Jovanovic scored in the 22nd and 63rd minutes, bookending a strike from Juan Muñiz just before halftime. Wanderers midfielder Angus Thurgate scored in the 55th minute to briefly cut the deficit to 3-2 before Panagiotis Kikianis sealed the Adelaide victory in the 71st.

The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Western Sydney. Adelaide United begins its season 1-0-0, while the Wanderers start 0-1-0.
