Preview: Celtic Looks to Extend Dominance Over Motherwell in Premiership Clash
GLASGOW, Scotland (Interstat) — Celtic aims to continue its recent mastery over Motherwell when the Scottish Premiership rivals meet Tuesday at Fir Park.
The visiting Hoops have won both encounters this season, including a 2-1 victory at Motherwell just four days ago on Dec. 26. The teams also met in October, with Celtic securing a 3-2 home win.
Celtic arrives in strong domestic form, coming off a 4-2 road victory over Livingston on Saturday. That result followed the narrow win at Motherwell and a 3-1 defeat of Aberdeen on Dec. 21. However, manager Brendan Rodgers’ side has shown inconsistency, with losses to Dundee United and Hearts in recent weeks and a 3-0 defeat to AS Roma in Europa League play earlier this month.
Motherwell seeks to rebound from a 1-0 loss at Rangers on Saturday. Before that, ‘Well had been tough to beat, losing only once in its previous nine matches across all competitions — a stretch that included three wins and five clean sheets. Their home form has been solid, with the club unbeaten at Fir Park since early November.
The statistical service Interstat projects a 3-1 victory for Celtic.
The match is a quick turnaround in a busy festive schedule for both clubs. Celtic faces a pivotal Old Firm derby against Rangers on Jan. 3. Their upcoming slate also includes the resumption of Europa League play against Bologna and FC Utrecht in January.
Motherwell’s schedule after the New Year includes league fixtures against St. Mirren, Hibernian and Kilmarnock.
Tuesday’s contest is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. local time kickoff at Fir Park in Motherwell, Scotland.
