BRUSSELS (Interstat) — Anderlecht opened its First Division A season with a 1-0 victory over rival Club Brugge on Sunday at Lotto Park. Substitute Brandon Mechele scored the game’s only goal in the sixth minute, securing the win for the home side. The match was a defensive struggle, with Club Brugge unable to find an equalizer. The result defied the pregame projection from Interstat, which gave Anderlecht a 70.6% chance to win but predicted a 2-1 scoreline. The loss leaves Club Brugge with a defeat to start its league campaign.
