Peterhead vs Queen of the South

PETERHEAD, Scotland (Interstat) — A late equalizer from substitute Matthew Douglas salvaged a point for Queen of the South in a 1-1 draw with Peterhead in a Scottish League One match at Balmoor Stadium on Saturday.

The match, which saw a flurry of late goals and disciplinary action, unfolded as a tense, physical affair that ultimately matched the pregame projection from Interstat’s simulator.

For much of the contest, both sides struggled to break through defensively organized opposition. The first half was punctuated by a pair of yellow cards in quick succession, shown to Peterhead’s Jack Stott in the 38th minute and Queen of the South’s Jack Brown two minutes later.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 78th minute by Peterhead midfielder Niall McGinn, who provided the game’s first moment of quality to give the home side the lead. The goal was assisted by substitute Seb Mason, who entered the match and made an immediate impact. Mason was booked for his celebration in the aftermath of the goal.

Facing a defeat, Queen of the South pressed for a response. Their persistence was rewarded in the 88th minute when Douglas found the net to level the score. The assist came from another substitute, Reece Lyon, who had also been shown a yellow card just three minutes prior.

The match concluded with a total of seven yellow cards issued, reflecting a combative midfield battle. Danny Strachan was booked in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time as the match ended in a share of the points.

The result leaves both clubs with identical records of 13 wins in League One play this season. Peterhead now sits at 13 wins, 17 losses and 11 draws, while Queen of the South holds a record of 13 wins, 12 losses and 13 draws. Across all competitions, Queen of the South is 17-16-13 and Peterhead is 15-21-11.

The draw continues a recent trend in the fixture, splitting the season series. Peterhead had won the previous meeting 2-0 on Feb. 28, but Queen of the South recorded a 4-0 victory in the prior encounter last August.

Peterhead will look to rebound next Saturday when they travel to face Kampong Speu Province. Queen of the South returns home to host Montrose on the same day in their next League One fixture.
