Shirak vs Van

GYUMRI, Armenia (Interstat) — Two struggling Armenian Premier League sides will meet Sunday when Shirak hosts Van at Gyumri City Stadium.

Both clubs are mired at the bottom of the table, with Van (3-6-2) sitting just above last-place Shirak (1-7-2). The visitors have shown slightly better form in league play, though they are reeling from a 4-0 loss to Urartu on Tuesday.

Shirak, conversely, is coming off a rare and emphatic 4-0 victory over FC Araks Ararat in a midweek match, which could provide a boost in confidence. That win was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult season for the hosts across all competitions (2-7-2).

The previous head-to-head encounter this season was a five-goal thriller, with Van emerging with a 3-2 home victory on Sept. 19. Van’s attack has been inconsistent, however, having been shut out in three of its last four league matches.

According to the Interstat game simulator, the most likely outcome for Sunday’s match is a 1-1 draw. A share of the points would do little to lift either team significantly in the standings as they look to build momentum ahead of the international break.

Van will look to rebound from its recent heavy defeat, while Shirak will aim to carry the momentum from its highest-scoring output of the season into the crucial home fixture.
