AP Sports Preview: Singida Black Stars vs. Tanzania Prisons
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (Interstat) — Singida Black Stars will look to extend their recent dominance over Tanzania Prisons when the two sides meet Thursday, May 14, in a Ligi kuu Bara matchup at an undetermined venue.
Kickoff is set for an evening local time.
Singida enters the contest on a strong run of form, having won four of their last five matches. The club, currently projected by Interstat’s game simulator to secure a 1-0 victory, most recently defeated Namungo 1-0 on Tuesday, May 12. Earlier in the month, they routed Mtibwa Sugar 4-0 on May 9 and posted a 3-1 win over Pamba Jiji on May 5.
The Black Stars’ only blemish in that stretch was a 2-1 loss at Coastal Union on May 2.
Thursday’s hosts have also enjoyed recent success against Tanzania Prisons. In their most recent head-to-head meeting on March 18, Singida won 2-1 on the road.
Tanzania Prisons arrives in dire form. The visiting side has lost eight of their last 10 league matches and managed just one victory in that span — a 3-2 win over Namungo on Feb. 14. Their most recent result was a 4-0 defeat at home to league powerhouse Simba on May 10.
That result followed a 2-1 loss to Mbeya City on May 4 and a 3-0 defeat to TRA United SC on May 1.
Tanzania Prisons have also struggled to generate offense, scoring just once over their last four matches. Their lone goal in that stretch came in a 1-1 draw against Kinondoni Municipal Council FC on April 14.
Singida has been particularly strong at home. The club has not lost to Tanzania Prisons in their last two league meetings and will aim to keep the visitors winless in their current slide.
After Thursday, Tanzania Prisons returns home to face Mtibwa Sugar on May 20. Singida travels to face Simba on the same date.
