Late Roma Equalizer Secures Draw in Europa League Opener

ATHENS (Interstat) — AS Roma salvaged a 1-1 draw at Panathinaikos on Thursday in the Europa League round of 16 after a late goal from substitute Jan Ziółkowski canceled out an earlier strike from the hosts’ Vicente Taborda.

Playing at Olympiako Stadio Spyros Louis, Roma played a man down from the 15th minute after Gianluca Mancini received a red card. Panathinaikos capitalized in the 58th minute when Taborda scored. Roma, which had a 65.7% win probability pre-match, found its equalizer in the 80th minute as Ziółkowski finished an assist from fellow substitute Niccolò Pisilli.

The result leaves both teams with identical records in the competition: no wins, no losses and one draw.
