NAPLES, Italy (Interstat) — Napoli and Hellas Verona opened their Serie A seasons with a 2-2 draw on Wednesday at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Verona substitute Martin Frese opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Napoli’s Scott McTominay equalized in the 54th, and captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo put the hosts ahead in the 82nd.

Substitute Gift Orban, who assisted Frese’s opener, secured a point for Verona with a late goal. Orban, Domagoj Bradarić and Armel Bella Kotchap received yellow cards.

The result defied pre-match projections that favored Napoli. Both clubs begin the campaign with a draw in all competitions.
