Napoli Upsets Juventus in Serie A Opener Behind Højlund’s Brace
NAPLES, Italy (Interstat) — Napoli opened its Serie A season with a 2-1 upset victory over favored Juventus on Sunday at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Rasmus Højlund scored twice for the hosts, netting in the 7th and 78th minutes. His winner came after Juventus substitute Kenan Yıldız had equalized in the 59th minute.
The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Juventus. Napoli’s defense held firm late despite yellow cards shown to Alessandro Buongiorno, Pierre Kalulu and Sam Beukema, who each recorded an assist.
The victory gives Napoli an early boost in the standings while Juventus begins its campaign with a defeat.
