Liverpool hosts Chelsea in Premier League clash Saturday
LIVERPOOL (Interstat) — Liverpool and Chelsea meet Saturday in a Premier League matchup with both teams seeking to stabilize inconsistent seasons. Kickoff is at Anfield.
Liverpool enters on a two-match losing streak, falling 3-2 at Manchester United on May 3 and dropping a 2-1 decision to Chelsea in the reverse fixture on Oct. 4, 2025. The Reds have won four of their last six, but defensive lapses have proven costly. A 2-1 win over Aston Villa on May 2 followed a 1-0 victory over RB Leipzig in Champions League play, yet Liverpool also lost 2-0 at Newcastle United on Apr. 26. Manager Arne Slot’s side has shown offensive firepower — 4-0 against Strasbourg on Apr. 24 and 3-1 over Crystal Palace on Apr. 25 — but has been vulnerable against top competition.
Chelsea arrives after a 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on Monday, a result that extended a troubling pattern. The Blues have lost four of their last five league matches, including a 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Apr. 21 and a 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Apr. 12. A lone bright spot came Apr. 26 with a 1-0 win over Leeds United. Chelsea’s defense has struggled, allowing three or more goals in four of its last seven outings. The Blues did earn a 2-1 win over Liverpool in October, but form has deteriorated since.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-1 Liverpool victory.
Chelsea’s schedule remains demanding, with Tottenham Hotspur visiting May 19 and a trip to Sunderland on May 24. Liverpool faces Aston Villa on May 17, then hosts Brentford on May 24.
Injuries could factor into both sides’ lineups. Liverpool’s attack relies on Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, while Chelsea looks to Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling for production.
Saturday’s match marks a critical juncture for both clubs as the season enters its final weeks.
