Fulham FC vs Aston Villa
LONDON (Interstat) — Ryan Sessegnon’s goal in the 43rd minute lifted Fulham FC to a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday at Craven Cottage in a Premier League match.
Sessegnon, a defender, scored his first goal of the season off an assist from fellow defender Timothy Castagne. Castagne was shown a yellow card in the 46th minute, just after the goal. Aston Villa’s Pau Torres received a yellow card in the 49th minute. In stoppage time, Fulham’s Harry Wilson was booked in the 90th minute plus one and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz in the 90th minute plus four.
The win improved Fulham’s Premier League record to 13 wins, 15 losses and nine draws. Across all competitions, Fulham now stands at 13 wins, 15 losses and 10 draws. Aston Villa fell to 19 wins, 11 losses and nine draws in league play, and 29 wins, 14 losses and 10 draws overall.
Fulham entered the match having gone winless in their previous three league games, with a scoreless draw at Brentford and losses at Liverpool and at home to Nottingham Forest. Saturday’s victory snapped that skid and gave Fulham their first league win since a 3-1 victory over Burnley on March 21.
Aston Villa came into the match on a two-game winning streak in league play, having beaten Sunderland 4-3 on April 19 and Everton 3-0 on April 12. Their most recent result before Saturday was a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest on April 12. The loss ended a run of three matches without a defeat in the Premier League.
The two sides had met once earlier this season, on Sept. 28, 2025, with Aston Villa winning 3-1 at home.
Fulham’s next league match is at Arsenal on May 2, followed by a home match against Bournemouth on May 9, a trip to Wolverhampton on May 17 and a home contest with Newcastle United on May 24.
Aston Villa’s upcoming schedule includes a league match at Burnley on April 25, but also a UEFA Europa League semifinal first leg at Nottingham Forest on April 30. Villa then travel to Liverpool on May 2 before hosting Tottenham Hotspur on May 3, hosting Nottingham Forest in the Europa League second leg on May 7, visiting Burnley again on May 10, hosting Liverpool on May 17 and finishing at Manchester City on May 24.
The match featured a tight defensive battle. Fulham held Aston Villa scoreless despite Villa controlling much of the possession in the second half. Sessegnon’s goal came from a cross by Castagne that found the defender in the box, and he finished past Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Yellow cards accumulated as the match grew more physical in the second half. Castagne’s booking came for a foul in midfield. Torres was cautioned for a challenge on Fulham forward Rodrigo Muniz. Luiz’s yellow card came after a late tackle in stoppage time, and Wilson was booked for time-wasting.
Aston Villa’s defense had been solid in recent weeks, recording clean sheets against Everton and West Ham United in March. But Fulham’s early strike proved decisive.
The result kept Aston Villa in contention near the top of the Premier League table, while Fulham moved further away from the relegation zone.
Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Fulham FC 1, Aston Villa 1. Interstat’s ELO system had projected Aston Villa with a 60.80 percent probability to win.
