West Ham tops Newcastle 3‑1 in Premier League opener
LONDON (Interstat) — West Ham United opened its Premier League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at London Stadium on Sunday.
Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy scored just four minutes in, but West Ham responded before halftime with a goal from Lucas Paquetá and a stoppage-time header from substitute Sven Botman. Tomáš Souček sealed the win with a goal in the 97th minute.
The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat that had forecast a 1-1 draw, though its ELO system heavily favored the Hammers. Both teams now hold 1-0 and 0-1 records, respectively, across all competitions.
