Sport Lisboa e Benfica vs Paris Saint-Germain FC

BENFICA HOSTS PSG IN PIVOTAL WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE CLASH

LISBON, Portugal (Interstat) — A crucial UEFA Women’s Champions League group-stage match unfolds here Wednesday as Sport Lisboa e Benfica hosts Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Both sides are seeking a vital result to bolster their knockout round hopes, with statistical projections favoring the Portuguese hosts in a tight contest.

The matchup at the Estádio da Luz is set for Dec. 17, 2025.

Benfica enters after a hard-fought 3-1 loss to powerhouse FC Barcelona on Dec. 10. Their European campaign has been challenging, with additional losses to Arsenal, Juventus and Paris FC. A 1-1 draw with FC Twente in November marks their only point so far in group play.

“We know the situation. Our backs are against the wall, but we believe in our quality at home,“ Benfica manager Filipa Patão said Tuesday.

Paris Saint-Germain arrives with its own pressures, sitting on one point from a scoreless draw with Leuven on Dec. 9. The French giants have struggled for consistency, suffering consecutive losses to Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Real Madrid before the Leuven stalemate. A heavy 4-0 defeat at Wolfsburg in October underscored their difficult start.

“We have not shown our true level. This is a moment to change that story,“ PSG head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur stated.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the contest is projected to end 1-0 in favor of Benfica. Such a result would severely dent PSG’s qualification chances while injecting life into Benfica’s campaign.

Key tactical battles will play out across the pitch. Benfica will rely on its organized defensive block and the attacking threat of forward Kika Nazareth to exploit PSG’s high defensive line. PSG, featuring stars like midfielder Grace Geyoro, will aim to dominate possession and break down a Benfica side likely to absorb pressure.

The match kicks off at 9 p.m. local time (2000 GMT).
