Substitute Azzaro Lifts Paris FC to Upset Win in Champions League
OSLO, Norway (Interstat) — Substitute Lorena Azzaro scored in the second half to deliver a 1-0 upset victory for Paris FC W over Valerenga W in UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage play Wednesday at Intility Arena.
The decisive goal came against the run of pregame projections, which heavily favored the Norwegian side. Azzaro finished a chance set up by Olaug Tvedten, who received a yellow card in the 16th minute.
Valerenga’s hopes were further damaged just before halftime when Karina Sævik was sent off with a red card in stoppage time. Playing a woman down, the hosts could not find an equalizer against the disciplined French side.
The result opens European competition with a win for Paris FC and a loss for Valerenga.
