ROME (Interstat) — Substitute Stine Brekken scored the lone goal in the 40th minute to propel Valerenga W to a 1-0 upset victory over AS Roma in a UEFA Women’s Champions League match Tuesday at Stadio Tre Fontane.

Brekken finished a play assisted by forward Annalena Rieke, who later received a yellow card. The result defied projections, as statistical models heavily favored the visiting Norwegian side. Valerenga W opens its European campaign with a win, while Roma begins with a loss.
