Scotland Topples Denmark in High-Scoring WC Qualifier

GLASGOW, Scotland (Interstat) — Scotland opened its World Cup qualifying campaign with a decisive 4-2 victory over Denmark on Tuesday at a raucous Hampden Park. The home side built a two-goal lead, weathered a second-half surge from the Danes, and scored twice in stoppage time to secure the win.

Scott McTominay gave Scotland an early lead in the third minute. Lawrence Shankland extended it in the 78th, but Denmark quickly answered with goals from Patrick Dorgu and Rasmus Højlund. The match turned when Denmark’s Rasmus Kristensen received a red card in the 61st minute. Scotland capitalized late with stoppage-time goals from Kenny McLean and Kieran Tierney, who also had an assist. The result defied a pregame projection that favored Scotland by a narrower margin.
