ENCAMP, Andorra (Interstat) — Albania defeated Andorra 1-0 on Thursday in a World Cup qualifier at Estadi de la FAF, overcoming pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. Substitute Kristjan Asllani broke a scoreless deadlock in the 67th minute for the match’s only goal. The assist came from fellow substitute Arlind Ajeti. The physical contest featured five yellow cards, with Andorra’s Heras Izquierdo and Albania’s Ajeti among those booked. The result defied the Interstat game simulator’s projected 1-1 draw and its ELO system, which gave Andorra a 62.4% probability to win. Albania opens its campaign with a victory, while Andorra begins with a loss.
