Preview: PSV Aims to Continue High-Scoring Form at Utrecht in Eredivisie Clash

UTRECHT, Netherlands (Interstat) — High-flying PSV Eindhoven brings its potent attack to Stadion Galgenwaard on Sunday for an Eredivisie match against FC Utrecht, aiming to close out 2025 with another victory.

The matchup, set for Dec. 21, pits a PSV side averaging over three goals per game in its last five domestic outings against a Utrecht team seeking consistency.

PSV (10-2-1) arrives after a wild 4-3 home win over Heracles on Dec. 13, a game emblematic of its season: explosive in attack but occasionally vulnerable at the back. Their form is a mix of spectacular highs, including a 6-2 rout of Napoli and a 4-1 win at Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League group stage, and narrow defeats like a 3-2 loss to Atlético Madrid.

“We create many chances and score beautiful goals, but we must also manage games better,“ PSV manager Peter Bosz said earlier this week. “Every match in the Eredivisie is a challenge.“

Utrecht (3-6-4) has drawn its last three matches, including a 1-1 result at NAC Breda on Dec. 14. Their season has been marked by resilience, fighting back for draws, and a standout 2-1 win over Ajax in November. However, defensive stability has been an issue, conceding four goals in a loss to AZ Alkmaar in October.

“We face one of the best teams in Europe currently,“ Utrecht coach Michael Silberbauer said. “We must be perfect in our organization and ruthless with our opportunities. Our home support will be crucial.“

Statistical analysis firm Interstat projects a 2-1 victory for the visitors. The prediction aligns with PSV’s firepower, led by forwards Johan Bakayoko and Ismael Saibari, who have combined for 22 goals across all competitions.

PSV currently sits second in the Eredivisie, one point behind Feyenoord. A win is vital to maintain pressure at the top. Utrecht is mid-table, looking to build momentum before the winter break.

Following this match, PSV’s schedule intensifies with a Champions League knockout clash against Newcastle United in January. Utrecht will visit NEC Nijmegen on Jan. 9 to resume league play.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. local time (1545 GMT).
