BASEL, Switzerland (Jan. 29, 2026) (Interstat) — Substitute Jiří Panoš scored the game’s only goal as visiting Viktoria Plzen earned a 1-0 upset victory over Basel in Europa League play Thursday at St. Jakob-Park.

The decisive moment came in the 39th minute. Panoš, who entered the match as a substitute, finished a sequence assisted by defenders Kevin Rüegg and Jonas Adjetey. The goal defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Basel.

The match was a physical affair, featuring four yellow cards. The result marked a successful start to the competition for Viktoria Plzen, while Basel seeks its first win.
