Olympique Lyonnais vs Go Ahead Eagles

LYON, France (Interstat) — Olympique Lyonnais, fresh off a dominant European victory, will look to continue its push in the UEFA Europa League when it hosts Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles at Groupama Stadium on Thursday.

The Group D clash pits a Lyon squad that has been formidable at home in continental play against an Eagles team seeking its first away win in the competition this season.

Lyon enters in strong form, having routed Maccabi Tel Aviv 6-0 in its last European outing on Nov. 27. The French side has won three of its four Europa League matches this campaign, conceding only twice. Its sole defeat was a 2-0 loss at Real Betis on Nov. 6. Domestically, Lyon sits third in Ligue 1.

Go Ahead Eagles, currently mid-table in the Eredivisie, arrives after a 2-2 domestic draw with AZ Alkmaar on Sunday. Their European form has been inconsistent, highlighted by a 4-0 home loss to Germany’s VfB Stuttgart on Nov. 27. However, they have shown resilience, earning a 2-2 draw with Utrecht and a notable 2-1 victory over England’s Aston Villa in October.

The Dutch club’s campaign has been defined by high-scoring affairs, with four of their last five matches across all competitions featuring four or more total goals.

According to the Interstat game simulator, Lyon is projected to secure a 2-0 victory.

The match is critical for the group standings. A win would solidify Lyon’s position at the top, while Go Ahead Eagles need a positive result to enhance their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

Following this match, Lyon will not play again until the Europa League knockout round resumes in January with an away fixture at Switzerland’s Young Boys on Jan. 22. Go Ahead Eagles return to Eredivisie action on Sunday at Twente before their next European match, also on Jan. 22, at French club Nice.

Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. local time (2000 GMT) on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025.
