Preview: Lille Visits Young Boys in Europa League Group Stage Clash

BERN, Switzerland (Interstat) — A surging Lille side will look to continue its strong domestic form in Europe when it visits Swiss champion Young Boys in a UEFA Europa League group stage match on Thursday, Dec. 11.

The French club, known as LOSC, enters the contest on a four-match winning streak across all competitions. Its most recent result was a 2-1 victory at amateur side US Pays de Cassel in the French Cup on Dec. 6. More impressive is its recent league form, including a 1-0 win over Marseille on Dec. 5 and a 4-0 rout of GNK Dinamo Zagreb in its last Europa League outing on Nov. 27.

Young Boys, based in the Swiss capital, faces a sterner challenge after a difficult European campaign. The Bernese side is coming off a 2-1 loss at English powerhouse Aston Villa on Nov. 27. Its Europa League results have been inconsistent, featuring a heavy 4-0 defeat at PAOK on Nov. 6 but also a 3-2 away win at Ludogorets on Oct. 23.

The matchup at Stadion Wankdorf presents a contrast in momentum. Lille has won seven of its last ten matches, demonstrating potent offense with multiple four-goal performances. Young Boys has struggled for consistency in the continental competition, particularly on defense, conceding four goals in two of its last three Europa League fixtures.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Lille is projected to extend its winning run with a 2-1 victory in Switzerland.

The match is a pivotal fixture in the group stage as clubs jockey for position ahead of the knockout round draw. Following this contest, Lille will turn its focus back to Ligue 1 with a match at Auxerre on Dec. 14. Young Boys’ next scheduled game is not until the Europa League knockout stage resumes in January against Olympique Lyonnais.

Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. local time (2000 GMT).
