UTRECHT, Netherlands (Interstat) — FC Utrecht and FC Porto played to a 1-1 draw in their Europa League group stage opener on Thursday at Stadion Galgenwaard.

Porto’s Miguel Rodríguez opened the scoring in the 48th minute, but Utrecht substitute Borja Sainz leveled the match in the 66th. The game was marred by discipline, with 10 yellow cards shown. Porto goalkeeper Vasileios Barkas was sent off in the 66th minute, coinciding with Utrecht’s equalizing goal. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the Dutch side. Both clubs now hold identical records across all competitions.
