Liefering Edges Rapid Wien II 1‑0 in Austrian 2. Liga Season Opener

WALS-SIEZENHEIM, Austria (Interstat) — Liefering opened its 2. Liga campaign with a 1-0 victory over Rapid Wien II on Friday at Red Bull Arena.

Phillip Verhounig scored the game’s lone goal in the 31st minute, converting after a buildup that involved multiple teammates. The match, projected by Interstat’s ELO system to heavily favor Liefering, proved to be a tight defensive affair.

The contest was marred by discipline, with seven yellow cards issued. Liefering’s Nikolas Freund and Marc Striednig were booked in the first half, followed by five others in a physical second half.

With the result, Liefering begins the season with a win across all competitions, while Rapid Wien II starts with a loss.
