Wolfsburg vs Hoffenheim

WOLFSBURG, Germany (Interstat) — Substitute Wouter Burger scored a second-half brace to complete a dramatic comeback for Hoffenheim, which secured a 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg in a Bundesliga match Sunday at Volkswagen Arena.

The win extends Hoffenheim’s strong run of form in league play, while Wolfsburg’s struggles on home turf continued.

Mohamed El Amine Amoura opened the scoring for the visitors in the 14th minute, giving Hoffenheim an early advantage. Wolfsburg responded before the half-hour mark, with Burger netting his first of the match in the 31st minute to level the score.

The home side took the lead early in the second half when Grischa Prömel, another substitute, found the net in the 50th minute. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Hoffenheim struck twice in a six-minute span to reclaim control of the match.

Amoura scored his second goal of the game in the 56th minute to tie the score at 2-2. Burger then completed his double in the 62nd minute, sealing the three points for Hoffenheim. Assists on the decisive goals were credited to substitutes Bernardo and Albian Hajdari.

The match was a contest marked by impactful performances off the bench, with all three goalscorers and both players credited with assists having entered the game as substitutes.

The result defied the pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 2-1 Hoffenheim victory and whose ELO system gave the club a 53.30 percent probability to win.

The victory improves Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga record to 6 wins, 3 losses, and 1 draw this season. Across all competitions, the club now stands at 16 wins, 5 losses, and 4 draws. The team has now won three consecutive matches in all competitions, including a 3-1 victory over Heidenheim on Oct. 25.

Wolfsburg’s season record in the Bundesliga falls to 3 wins, 5 losses, and 3 draws. Their overall record across all competitions now sits at 4 wins, 5 losses, and 3 draws. The loss continues a pattern of inconsistent results for the club, which had secured a 1-0 win over Hamburger SV II on Oct. 25 but was shut out 3-0 by Stuttgart in its previous league fixture on Oct. 18.

Discipline was a factor in the match, with two yellow cards issued. Hoffenheim’s Albian Hajdari was booked in the 5th minute, and Wolfsburg’s Bernardo received a caution in the 67th minute.

Hoffenheim faces a congested schedule ahead, with its next ten games spanning multiple competitions, including the 3. Liga, Frauen Bundesliga and the Bundesliga. Its next Bundesliga contest is at home against RB Leipzig on Nov. 8.

Wolfsburg’s next fixture is a Bundesliga match away at Werder Bremen on Nov. 7. The club will then host Bayer Leverkusen on Nov. 22.
