Gangwon vs FC Machida Zelvia
GANGWON, South Korea (Interstat) — Gangwon FC hosts Japan’s FC Machida Zelvia on Tuesday in a pivotal AFC Champions League World match, with the visitors looking to build on a stout defensive record and the home side seeking to rebound from a recent shutout.
The Group H clash at Gangneung Stadium pits two sides coming off narrow 1-0 defeats in their previous continental outings on Nov. 4. Zelvia fell to Melbourne City FC, while Gangwon was edged by Japan’s S’frecce Hiroshima.
Zelvia (1-2-2) has been difficult to break down, with three clean sheets in its five group matches, including a 2-0 away win over Shanghai Haigang FC on Oct. 21. Its only multi-goal concession this tournament phase was in the recent loss to Melbourne City.
Gangwon (2-0-3) has shown a capacity for high-scoring affairs, notably a 4-3 victory over Vissel Kobe on Oct. 22. However, its attack was silenced in the last match, and it has struggled for consistency, also falling 1-0 to China’s Cheng Rongcheng on Sept. 30.
According to the Interstat game simulator, Zelvia is projected for a 1-0 victory. The result would be a significant boost for the Japanese club’s knockout stage aspirations.
Following this match, Zelvia will next face Ulsan on Dec. 9, while Gangwon travels to face Buriram United on the same date.
